Forensic entomology is the use of the insects that inhabit decomposing remains to aid legal investigations. The medico-legal area of entomology focuses on the criminal component in regard to the insects that feast on and are found on human remains and determines an estimate of how long a person or animal has been deceased. They may also assist in civil or criminal cases that involve food contamination.
