Interpreting in Education

A New Opportunity

In the education field, interpreting goes beyond helping students in the classroom. It is essential to provide every member in a community with equal opportunities to participate in the education process. As a result, interpreters are found in all types of settings during a school day: curriculum instruction, parent-teacher meetings, school events, disciplinary hearings, and board meetings

Joining the Education Field

Interpreters typically work alongside healthcare specialists, school administrators, city officials, legal advisors, financial experts, public speakers, and teachers. These requires them to study the vocabulary of many specialties extensively and to develop the necessary  interpreting core skills to put this knowledge at work.

The Core Skills

Candidates that wish to work as interpreters in the field of education need to prove a high level proficiency in these core skills:

Sight Translation

Reading a document in the original language and translating it out loud.

Simultaneous

Interpreting spoken language in real-time without interrupting the speaker.

Consecutive

Interpreting spoken language after the speaker has finished delivering a message.
